Private sector ready to implement development projects in Oman

Tehran, Nov 10, IRNA Chairman of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture Gholamhossein Shafeie in a meeting with Omani minister of commerce and mines said Iran and the Iranian private sector are ready to take serious and operational steps to implement development projects in Oman.
A 30-member Iranian delegation of tradesmen and businessmen headed by Shafeie is visiting Muscat with an aim of developing international relations with Oman.
Speaking during the meeting, Shafeie expressed satisfaction over activities of trade officials of Oman in realization of targets of development plans and elucidated that Irans private sector with the support of the two governments can play a strong role in implementation of development projects.

He said Iran and Oman enjoy long-standing relations but in recent years relations have distanced from the level they should stand at, adding that with regard to economic relations Oman holds a more proper position among regional countries and in fact is an export-import axis in the region especially in the field of transportation.

Shafeie said with the coming to power of the 11th government in Iran bilateral relations and generally Irans economic ties with regional countries entered into a new phase as Iran is interested in developing its economic transactions with regional nations, Muslim countries in particular.

In line with this policy, improvement of trade relations with Oman is one of the main priorities of the government and private sector of Iran, Shafeie further remarked.

Therefore, he added, Oman can play the role of a bridge connecting Iran and other countries, especially those in Africa, adding that Irans outlook towards Oman is within a gateway framework which can direct Irans products to regional markets.

He further stressed that the port city of Chabahr due to its proper position can be turned into a jetty for supplying the required commodities of the entire region in a near future.
