MP: Upcoming Iran-US-EU talks to clarify nuclear negotiations’ fate

Tehran, Nov 4, IRNA – Upcoming trilateral talks among Iran, US and EU can clarify the fate of the Iran-G5+1 nuclear negotiations, Head of Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Ala’eddin Boroujerdi said here Tuesday.
“The western media’s stands on decreasing the number of centrifuges is a political intrigue, but refraining from predicting the future of the nuclear negotiations is the best thing to do, and we should wait for the outcome of those talks,” he added.
Reacting to some western media’s speculations over the acceptance of the US-proposed number of centrifuges by the Iranian side during the previous round of talks, he said that the number of centrifuges is one of the main points of difference of opinion between the two sides.

“Keeping in mind that one of the main points of difference of opinion between Iran and the Sextet (UN Security Council Big 5 plus Germany), if there was any agreement about decreasing the number of centrifuges the practical moves would have borne fruit thus far,” said the lawmaker.

He also speculated that since the number of centrifuges is a sensitive issue in Iran and in order to meet the industrial demand the country’s uranium enrichment must not be lowered beneath a certain level, the western media’s propagations about the matter is aimed at intriguing internal disputes in Iran.

On further extension of the nuclear negotiations’ duration beyond their November 24 deadline he said that none of the sides of the talks is willing to do that.

“If the six world powers would lose the remaining time for achieving a final agreement though, it is not clear yet what the aftermaths of such a failure would be, and therefore, waiting for the outcome of the negotiations is all we can do now,” he said.
