Iran builds anti-cancer medicine by milk protein

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian researchers at Khwarizmi University, Tehran, have designed and developed a smart medical Nano-carrier, using milk protein to treat stomach cancer, an academician said.
A faculty member of Kharazmi University and the project's researcher said one of main proteins of milk known as Casein carries a medicine for chemotherapy, the Iranian students' news agency reported.

The combination of the protein and the medicine has paved the way for optimize production of the final medicine. The medicine has shown considerable treatment effectiveness for stomach cancer.

The medicine has been put into a cover of Casein protein in milk and Chitosan to produce edible Nano-capsule.

Results of the study have showed that in simulated conditions of stomach and intestines, the Nano-capsule releases the drug gradually.

The protein carrier is sensitive to acid circumstances of the stomach and it releases the drug gradually.

The results of the study have been published in Anti-Cancer Agents in Medicinal Chemistry.
