Nuclear deal possible if world powers act reasonably, Iran's Larijani says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Parliament Speaker said an agreement on Tehrans peaceful nuclear program can be reached if world powers are rational in the nuclear talks.
If there is rationality in the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), a deal on the nuclear issue is possible, Ali Larijani said Sunday, adding that the nuclear issue is now on a clear path and the views of the negotiating sides have come closer.

Iran and the G5+1 (alternatively known as the P5+1 or E3+3) are in talks to hammer out a final deal to end a decade of impasse over Tehrans civilian nuclear work.

On November 24, 2013, Iran and the G5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) signed an interim nuclear deal in the Swiss city of Geneva.

The Geneva deal (the Joint Plan of Action) came into effect in January and expired in July, when the parties decided to extend negotiations until November 24 in the hope of clinching a final deal that would end a decade of impasse over Tehrans peaceful nuclear energy program.

Irans deputy foreign minister and one of the countrys senior nuclear negotiators, Seyed Abbas Araqchi, on Sunday announced that that deputy foreign ministers representing Iran and the sextet of world powers are slated to hold a forthcoming meeting in Oman to discuss Tehrans peaceful nuclear program.

He said the deputy-level meeting will be held on November 11.

Araqchi also confirmed reports that Irans Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, US Secretary of State John Kerry and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton will convene a trilateral meeting in Omans capital of Muscat on November 9 and 10.

In the trilateral meeting among Zarif, Kerry and Ashton, the parties will discuss issues on enrichment and sanctions, the senior Iranian negotiator noted.
