Official criticizes West for imposing its cultural values on other nations

Geneva, Oct 30, IRNA - Head of the Iranian Judiciary's Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani on Thursday criticized the West for imposing its cultural values on other nations.
He made the remarks in a meeting with Non Aligned Movement (NAM)'s ambassadors.
Larijani asserted that the West should not dictate its cultural values to other nations which have different cultural and religious values.

He underlined that human rights is not a western issue and the West has no right to impose its interpretation of the issue.

He also criticized the West's policy of imposing its liberal democratic lifestyle on other nations

Nations are entitled to live based on their native culture, the official added.

He referred to the turmoil in Iraq and Syria and said that spread of terrorism is due to the fact that world powers ignored Iran's call for fighting the menace and even some of them supported it.

Larijani heading a high ranking delegation left Tehran for Geneva on Tuesday.

Larijani is to participate in the 20th session of the Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group which is being held in Geneva from October 27 to November 7.

Representatives of 14 countries will elaborate on their efforts to fulfill their human rights obligations and commitments, assessing both positive developments and identifying challenges during the session.
