Defense, intelligence bodies interactions ward off crises: Iranian commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces hailed the interactions among the countrys defense and intelligence institutions.
Speaking in a meeting with Intelligence Ministry officials, Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said the collaborations and interactions between defense and intelligence bodies have always safeguarded the country against threates and security crises.

He added that intelligence ministrys cooperation with the military and law enforcement forces ensures security for people, paves the way for economic, political and cultural activities, and makes it insecure for the enemy (to operate) inside the country and around it.

The senior Iranian commander further referred to the 2010 arrest of the ringleader of the Pakistan-based Jundallah terrorist group Abdolmalek Rigi as an example of good cooperation between the intelligence ministry and the countrys armed forces.

In an operation described as a significant security success, Iranian intelligence and security forces arrested Rigi on February 23, 2010, in eastern Iran while he was on a flight from Dubai to Kyrgyzstan.

Rigi was at an American base 24 hours before his capture and the United States had forged an Afghan passport for him.

The Jundallah ringleader was later charged with 79 counts of various crimes including armed robbery, bombing operations in public places, armed attacks on the army, police personnel, and ordinary civilians, assassination attempts, disrupting regional stability, kidnapping and murder. He was executed in June 2010.
