Tehran, Oct 27, IRNA The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Iran Gary Lewis said on Monday fighting particles spread in the air is a major environmental concern for the United Nations.
He told a press conference held to commemorate the 69th establishment anniversary of the United Nations that the United Nations is mulling a plan to fight the air pollution.
He noted that two thirds of the particles polluting air in Iranian cities in south of the country namely Zagros mountains and Ahvaz are coming from Iraq.
He further explained the there have been certain programs undertaken by a number of international organizations in Iraq but led to nothing yet due to the security issues prevailing the country.
Meanwhile, Lewis made it clear that what the United Nations is doing in the area is really minimal compared to the activities of the Iranian government.
