Kerry: US Congress important to Iran negotiations

BERLIN (AP) -- U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says the Obama administration has no intention of cutting Congress out of the loop on any possible deal with Iran over its nuclear program.
Speaking to reporters in Berlin on Wednesday, Kerry dismissed suggestions that there may be attempts to bypass Congress, saying that both he and the president believe that "Congress has an extremely important role to play in this and Congress will play a role in this."

With a Nov. 24 deadline for an accord looming, Iran is maintaining a tough line on its nuclear infrastructure. The U.S. is offering Iran permanent relief from economic sanctions, but has been struggling to convince the U.S. Congress to cooperate.

Kerry says the administration looks forward to "serious and deep Congressional engagement in this effort."
