Iran to send medical aid to Syria’s Kobane

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran plans to send humanitarian aid, including medical equipment, to Syria’s border town of Kobane, which has been under attack by the militants from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), Iranian deputy foreign minister said.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian commented on the Islamic Republic’s latest consignments of humanitarian aid sent to Syria, Iraq and the Gaza Strip.

“Up to now, Iran has sent health and medical aid for the injured (in the region) several times more than the amount of aid that organizations and other countries have provided,” he said.

“At this juncture, we have focused our efforts on sending aid to Kobani,” Amir Abdollahian said

Kobane has been subject to ferocious attacks by the ISIL militants over the past month.

ISIL fighters have captured dozens of Kurdish villages around the border town, forcing some 200,000 of people to flee.

The ISIL declared a caliphate in June and has seized vast swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria, displacing thousands of people mainly from minority communities.
