Iranian nuclear talks at critical stage, say EU officials
Progress reported in trilateral meeting involving Ashton, Kerry and Zarif, but gaps remain on core issues, say the sides involved.
Nuclear talks between Iran and the group of six powers in Vienna have reached a critical stage, European Union officials said at the end of three days of negotiations.

"Diplomatic efforts to find a resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue are now in a critical phase," said one official. "We are trying hard to make progress and remain fully engaged to achieve a comprehensive solution by the 24 November deadline."

During the talks, EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, made progress during an extended trilateral meeting, according to all sides involved, but there are still differences on core issues.

The talks continued on Friday between the negotiation teams of Iran and the six powers the United States, Russia, China, Germany, France and Britain at the senior official level. Next week, the talks will continue at a lower diplomatic level, including experts from all sides.
