Pasabandar takes on role as Irans new naval base

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Navy has set up its newest base at the coastal area of Pasabandar in the countrys southeastern waters on the coast of the Sea of Oman, a commander announced.
Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Wednesday, Head of the Iranian Navy's Industrial Research and Self-Sufficiency Jihad Organization Rear Admiral Ali Gholamzade said construction of the Pasabandar base is over and it has been furnished with the necessary equipment.
According to the top officer, naval units are now stationed in the new base.

The coasts of Makran have in recent years attracted the attention of many Iranian decision-makers and military officials.

Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari had earlier announced that Iran plans to speed up development projects in the country's southeastern coasts, which stretch from the port city of Bandar Abbas to Makran (also known as Pasabandar).

Back in February, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced that his administration has devised development plans for the countrys southern littoral provinces on the rims of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, including initiatives to develop new industries.
