TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan on Tuesday inaugurated the country's first lithium battery firm to meet the armed forces' demands.

"We witness launching the first firm producing new generation of energy savers known as lithium battery by experts of the Organization of Energy Resources Development of Iranian Defense Ministry," the Iranian minister said in a ceremony.

Dehqan said the firm which was constructed in 17,600 square meters is capable of generating 2.5 million ampere hours of different types of flat and cylindrical rechargeable batteries for military and non-military purposes.

The firm could meet needs of the country's armed forces, he said, adding lithium battery can be employed in telecommunications and electronic industries, including wireless systems.

The battery can be used in cell phone batteries, computer systems, motor cycles, electronic cars, systems saving solar energy and cell phone networks, as well as power banks and USPs.

He said these batteries are of high energy density and high voltage and can replace other batteries.
