Government to draft ‘national space law’

TEHRAN, Oct. 04 (MNA) – President’s deputy for legal affairs has said government has plans to draft national space law.

Elham Aminzadeh, who was addressing the opening session of the World Space Week 2014 today morning, also said that the government would evaluate preliminary suggestions to place space sector in the country’s Sixth Development Plan.

Aminzadeh stressed on a ‘legal understanding of Iran’s international participation,’ which ‘would provide instruments effective in defense of Iran’s peaceful space activities.’ She also added that active participation in international conventions would give a hope that Iran’s activities in space would improve and become more sustainable.
Aminzadeh however admitted that investments should be attracted to the space sector and the private sector potentials should be directed to space projects. “We have received suggestions to place the sector in the priority in the Sixth Development Plan,” she told the ceremony.

“Iran is a signatory to Convention on International Liability for Damage caused by Space Objects, and Search and Rescue (SAR) documents to improve the country’s position internationally,” Aminzadeh said, “currently, 15 countries have drafted national space law; for the next 5 years, government should work out strong organization in the space sector.”

“The Fifth Development Plan has lent weight to space infrastructure and saving current position in the orbit; the national space law, if drafted, would encourage flow of investments and private sector’s more active role,” Aminzadeh said.
