Iraq PM due in Tehran soon
Baghdad, Oct 3, IRNA Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi will visit Iran soon on his first official visit to a foreign country since he took office on August 11.
A source close to Iraqi political circles told IRNA on Friday that the trip will take place in the near future.
Al-Abaid's visit to Iran is considered as significant regarding the major role played by Tehran in the past months to help Baghdad fight against the terrorist group of Daesh (ISIL), the source added.

The Iraqi prime minister had earlier appreciated Iran's constructive role in the present sensitive juncture of Iraq's history while he was speaking to reporters in New York last week on the sidelines of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly.

Also during a recent meeting with the Iranian ambassador to Baghdad, Al-Abadi described Iran's support for the Iraqi government and nation in anti-ISIL fighting as important, fundamental and admirable.

Al-Abadi replaced Nouri al-Maliki who served as Iraqi prime minister for two four-year terms.
