The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) team in the Islamic Republic of Iran extends deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of Mr. Gholam Mohseni, Global Fund malaria project focal point in Hormozgan.
On 14 September we were saddened to learn of the demise of Mr. Mohseni.

Mr. Mohseni was a specialist in the field of malaria parasitology and had taught in over 27 microscopy training courses which have resulted in increasing both the number and the expertise of microscopists across the country. He also played an important role in the expansion of malaria laboratories and early diagnostic services in Iran.

This has resulted in the improvement of access to prompt diagnostic services for malaria, a life threating disease. In addition, he played a positive role in the overall strengthening malaria diagnostic services within the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean region where he covered malaria-related parasitological topics in 12 WHO international courses. He was also actively involved in field studies on anti-malaria drug resistance.
