TEHRAN Sept 20 (Shana)--A member of the energy commission of Iran's Majlis (Islamic Parliament) said Indian refiners long for completion of the Peace pipeline from Iran through Pakistan despite US pressure and Islamabad's foot-dragging.
�Highlighting a recent visit by an parliamentary delegation from Assar Steel Corporation, Delhi, India, Abdollah Tamimi said Assar complex is equipped with one of the world's most sophisticated refineries which is in dire need for Iranian natural gas.



He said India is pressured by the US to delay imports of gas from Iran which has created hurdles in completion of the peace pipeline, not to mention Islamabad's lingering.
Iran wishes to export its natural gas to Pakistan, India and China through the pipeline.�
Pakistani desperately needs to import natural gas from Iran to resolve its loadshedding challenge.

Iran has already built its 900-kilometer share of the pipeline on its own soil and is waiting for the 700-kilometer Pakistani side of the pipeline to be built.

Iran and Pakistan signed an agreement over the construction of a gas pipeline in 1995. Later, Iran made a proposal to extend the pipeline from Pakistan into India. In February 1999, an accord between Iran and India was signed.

But due to the US pressure, India withdrew from the project in 2009.
