Vice president warns against water shortage

TEHRAN Sept 17 (Shana)--Water shortage is a serious crisis and all the people of the country are expected to take part in efforts made for water conservation, Irans vice president Eshaq Jahangiri said.
The presidential website quoted Jahangiri remarks as saying water crisis will get worse if we lose time and that is why the country needs not only to take emergency initiatives but prepare short-term and long-term plans to counter the water shortage in the country.



Addressing Supreme Council of Water Resources, he added over the sixth economic development plan, starting next year, water resources should be considered as a pivot in any decision-making on development plans.

According to the first vice president, the Supreme Leader's agreement with allocating 10 billion dollars of National Development Funds (NDF) resources to water and soil projects is a golden opportunity for Ministry of Energy to start proper planning to maximize benefits from the huge facilities it has access to.

During the meeting, managing director of Water and Wastewater Engineering Company of Iran, Hamid Reza Khabaz, presented a report on low rainfall and shrinking water resources of the dams located near the capital asking people to take water shortage serious and save water.
