DM underlines Iranian Armed Forces' deterrent power

DM underlines Iranian Armed Forces
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said Iran is now enjoying the highest level of military deterrence, while it is fully prepared to confront any possible enemy threat and aggression.

"In our country we believe that we should enjoy such a power that the enemies never take a greedy and threatening look (at Iran)," Dehqan said, addressing Turkmen cadets in Ashgabat on Tuesday.

"Iran's national security doctrine is based on effective defense and deterrence and it is not based on any aggressive view," he added.

Dehqan elaborated on the capabilities and training capacities of Iran's Armed Forces, and underlined that cooperation in training skilled forces between Iran and Turkmenistan can pave the ground for long-term cooperation in other fields.

In relevant remarks today, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari stressed that Iran enjoys such a high level of deterrence power and might that the enemies had several times withdrawn their invasion plans against the country.

"Today the IRGC enjoys three powerful air, ground and naval forces and the enemy has also acknowledged this capability," Jafari told reporters in a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday.

He underlined that the IRGC and the Army had tight cooperation in defending the country against foreign threats.

Jafari said after the Iraqi-imposed war against Iran (1980-1988), the enemy had several times sought to threaten Iran, although he did not mention if by enemy he meant the US. "But they withdrew their plans given the preparedness of the Armed Forces and the people, and this means deterrence."
