Official hopes for further expansion of ties with Germany
TEHRAN (FNA)- Governor-General of Iran's Kurdistan province Abdol Mohammad Zahedi expressed the hope that the bilateral relations between Tehran and Berlin would further develop after the removal of sanctions against Iran.
"During the course of the past years international sanctions and foreign pressure had led to lowering the level of Iran-Germany relations, including investments of Germans in Iran, which we hope interactions between Iran and 6 world powers and lifting of sanctions will pave the way for greater participation of Germans in development of Kurdistan," Zahedi said in a meeting with a group of German investors on Wednesday night.

He underlined Kurdistan's intention to have good ties with the entire world, and said Kurdistan welcomes investors from around the globe.

Many European states have voiced interest in the expansion of economic and political ties with Iran after Tehran and the world powers inked the Geneva agreement in November.

Late in August, Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Sakari Tuomioja underlined the need for the further expansion of relations between Iran and the European Union (EU).

"Normalization of relations can bring about positive changes," Tuomioja said in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran.

Asked about the prospects of Tehran-Helsinki relations, the Finnish foreign minister said, "In Helsinki, there is a strong interest in the expansion of ties with Iran and we are looking for the removal of restrictions in the relations by reaching a nuclear agreement."

He expressed pleasure in his presence in Iran, and said since he first visited Iran in 2003, "we have faced no problem in our bilateral relations"

The Finnish foreign minister pointed to the current talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, France and Britain plus Germany), and said, "I hope that the remaining issues will be resolved in the coming months."

He noted that a final agreement between Iran and the G5+1 would result in the expansion of Tehran-Helsinki ties in political, economic and cultural areas.
