Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif[/caption]Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif heads for Turkey to attend the inauguration ceremony of the countrys President-elect Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The top Iranian diplomat left the Iranian capital Tehran for the Turkish capital Ankara on Thursday morning, IRNA news agency reported.
Zarif plans to have bilateral and multilateral meetings with officials from other countries on the sidelines of the ceremony.
The Iranian foreign minister will subsequently leave Ankara for Moscow.
Senior officials from 65 countries, including presidents of Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Albania, Somalia and Bulgaria will participate in the event. Representatives from a number of international organizations are also expected to attend Erdogans inauguration.
In addition, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Saudi Arabias Minister of Foreign Affairs Saud al-Faisal and foreign ministers of some other countries including Oman and India will attend the event.
Erdogan has been the countrys prime minister since 2003 and is to become the first ever directly-elected president following his victory in August 10 elections.
Erdogan, the ruling Justice and Development Partys (AKP) candidate, managed to secure almost 52 percent of the votes cast in the first round of Turkeys presidential election. His main rival, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, won over 38 percent of the ballot.
Erdogan can serve two five-year terms as president and remain in power until 2024.
