Iran foreign ministry strongly condemns incursion of Israeli drone

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned and described as a hostile act the intrusion of an Israeli spying drone into the Islamic Republic’s airspace.

Iran condemns the Israeli violation of the Islamic Republic’s airspace through this hostile act which amounts to violation of its territorial integrity, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Monday.

“In response to the flagrant violation of our territorial integrity, we reserve the right to [undertake] an appropriate defensive action and to follow up on the issue at the level of legal and international bodies based on the results of necessary investigations and within the framework of international regulations,” Afkham said.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said in a statement on Sunday that its forces had intercepted and brought down an Israeli spy drone which was heading to Natanz nuclear facility in the central Iranian province of Isfahan.

The stealth spy drone was targeted by a surface-to-air missile before it reached the strategic location, according to the statement.

The Hermes-type unmanned aerial vehicle can operate within a radius of 800 kilometers and is capable of flying 1,600 kilometers without refueling, said Commander of the IRGC’s Aerospace Division Brigadier General Amirali Hajizadeh on Monday.

Earlier on Monday, the IRGC released the footage of the downed Israeli spy drone.

On Sunday, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan warned that the Islamic Republic would give a crushing response to any enemy aggression against Iranian soil.
