Italian FM stresses Iran's influential role in resolving Iraq's crisis

TEHRAN (FNA)- Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini underlined that Iran plays an important role as an influential power in resolving Iraq's crisis.
"The regional players like Iran can help settle the crisis in Iraq," Mogherini said on Friday.

The Italian foreign minister noted that she has on several occasions discussed the Iraqi crisis with her Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif before.

"During Zarf's upcoming visit to Italy I will elaborate on the issue again," Mogherini said.

She said Italy was presently cooperating with all regional players, ranging from Iran and Turkey to Persian Gulf littoral states, to find a new regional equilibrium in the Middle East which could be all-inclusive.

Mogherini noted that the crises in Libya, Syria and Iraq could not be dealt with separately because it requires a project which could embrace players from the whole region.

Last week, an Iranian deputy foreign minister voiced Tehran's full support for the restoration of security and tranquility in Iraq, and said Iran's emphasis on extending support for Iraq's new Premier Haidar al-Abadi testifies to the claim.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian underlined that establishment of a democratic and strong government in Iraq is to the benefit of entire region, saying that is why Iran has voiced full support for Iraqs new government in its fight against terrorism.
