A senior Iranian official has stressed that all Iraqi political factions should abide by the law as the sole path to achieve peace in the Arab country.
Adherence of all political groups to frameworks stipulated in the countrys constitution and taking strides towards unity and national solidarity are the only options for maintaining peace and establishing new political and executive mechanisms based on election results, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani told reporters on the sidelines of a Wednesday meeting with Iranian lawmakers.

Shamkhani reaffirmed Irans support for the constitutional measures taken to elect the new Iraqi prime minister and hailed the Iraqi politicians role in guiding the country towards unity and prosperity.

On Monday, Iraqs new President Fouad Massoum appointed the deputy parliament speaker Haider al-Abadi as Iraqs new premier-designate to form the new government. Abadi was nominated for the post by the Iraqi National Alliance, a coalition of Shia parties.

Abadi has 30 days to form the next government and present it to parliament for approval.
