Palestinian FM asks for global ban on arms supplies to Israel

TEHRAN (FNA)- Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki called on the world states to impose a global ban on the supply of military tools and weapons to the Zionist regime whose army is massacring the defenseless Palestinian people.

“The world countries shouldn’t supply weapons and arms aids to the Zionist regime and the regime should go under a boycott since these weapons are used against the defenseless Palestinian people,” Maliki said, addressing an emergency meeting of the foreign ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in Tehran on Monday to discuss the aggravating conditions of the people in the Gaza Strip.

“We are in a period of time that it is necessary to take an international and pervasive decision on aids to the Palestinian nation and the people in the Gaza Strip since we are witnessing the Zionist regime’s continued operations and the massacre of the helpless women and children,” he added.

“We have gathered here to take an international decision against the occupying army of the Zionist regime,” Maliki said.

50 NAM member states have sent their representatives to Tehran to participate in the meeting, 8 of them at ministerial level.

The NAM foreign ministers attended the block’s emergency meeting to discuss the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and also find a solution to halt Tel Aviv’s savagery against the defenseless Gazans.

The NAM is a group of states which are not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. As of 2012, the movement has 120 members and 17 observer countries.

Israeli warplanes have been pounding numerous sites in the Gaza Strip since July 8, demolishing houses and burying families under the rubble. Israeli forces also began a ground offensive against the impoverished Palestinian land on July 17.

The Israeli attacks have killed at least 1,822 people and injuring nearly 10,000 others in the past 28 days.
