Iran, World Bank discuss expansion of cooperation
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran and the World Bank voiced readiness to utilize all their possible capacities to pave the ground for widening and deepening mutual cooperation.
In a meeting between Iranian Minister of Economy and Finance Ali Tayyebnia and Executive Director of the World Bank's Department of the Middle-East and North Africa Omar Bougara on Sunday, the two sides called for enhancement of ties, especially in environmental and social projects.

In the meeting, Tayyebnia underlined the fruitfulness of the World Bank expert delegation's visit to Iran and said that Iran expects more cooperation from the World Bank.

"Given Iran's position as a shareholder of the Bank, it is entitled to enjoy its shareholder rights," said the minister.

Tayyebnia said Iran expects an international specialized body, such as the World Bank, to be fast and efficient in its missions, particularly over environmental disaster happening in Orumiyeh Lake.

Bougara, for his part, expressed the Bank's full readiness, especially the new chief of the department, to promote bilateral cooperation.

Referring to changes in the Bank's structure, Bougara expressed hope that the new structure could lead to promotion of ties between the body with member states.

Also in April, the Iranian minister said, "The World Bank is necessitated to provide Iran with technical assistance in areas of environment, air pollution, road security and management of the natural disasters."
