Tony Blair, who is also the Middle East envoy, faced harsh criticism after he threw a lavish party for his wife while the grim death toll from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict passed 1,050, the British daily news website theDaily Mailreported Sunday.
He should be in the Middle East, not in the UK, one source said according to the news website.

Blair, who was holding the party for his wifes 60th birthday, received around 150 guests including wealthy businessmen, television celebrities and former ministers.

The total cost of the surprise party, whichwas held at his 6million country mansion South Pavilions, is estimated at $50,000.

Blair is a member of the Representative of the Quartet which is based in Jerusalem.

The Quartet was set up in 2002 and gathers the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia.

It aims at help mediate Middle East peace negotiations and support Palestinian economic development.

In June, a group of former British ambassadors had joined a campaign asking forthe removal of Blairfrom his role as Middle East envoy.

Mr.blair's private life is his own. How much the cost, how many people, what type of people are really all privte . But : as the ME envoy he achieved absolutely nothing while he is enjoying a very good pay and a prestigious position. He is obviously inclined towards Israel and we have seen no serious effort from him to encourage Israel accept any policy that would make life a little easier for ordinary people of Gaza. I suppose having been in a high position in world politics for a long time he knows better what to do to enjoy his good position and good life without hurting anybody!!
