Iran makes efforts to empower women breadwinners

Tehran, July 26, IRNA - Extensive efforts are underway to empower women breadwinners, said the vice president for women and family affairs.
Shahindokht Molaverdi said generating jobs is among the main prerequisites of economic development, adding special attention will be paid to financial empowerment of women especially those who live in the underprivileged regions of the country.
She said presently female university gradates and women householders are in the spotlight.

The budget has allocated some $2.6 million to Presidential Offices Department for Women and Family Affairs which is very limited because the fund should be spent on 14 different purposes, ?Iran Daily? quoted her as saying recently.

The vice president said as per the agreement with Technical and Vocational Organization of Iran, sustainable jobs will be generated for Iranian women.

Molaverdi said earlier that consolidating family bonds and empowerment of women and girl top the agenda of the administration, describing the issues as part of the governments five-year national development plan.

She underlined that women are most affected by war, financial and economical crises, food insecurity, environmental degradation, poverty and hunger.

Recently, Imam Khomeini Relief Committee (IKRC) advisor on womens affairs, Azar Esmaeili said Iran has 2.56 million women householders of whom more than one million are under the protection of IKRC.

She said added that 49.94 and 50.6 percent of female breadwinners live in urban and rural areas respectively.
