Yazd drawing more tourists

Tehran, July 23, IRNA - The number of foreign tourists visiting Yazd increased fourfold in the first three month of current Iranian year (started March 21) compared with the figures for the corresponding period last year said an official.
Mostafa Fatemi, the head of Yazds Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department announced the above figure, Tuesday, adding that a total of 22,040 foreign tourists visited the attractions of the province during March 21June 21, while the figure was 5,463 last year.

He added that 87,943 tourists opted for sojourn in hotels and tourism camps during the period, while the last years figure was 57,223. Fatemi further said that 29,854 domestic tourists and 6,647 foreign tourists toured the region during the first month of the Iranian calendar (March 21-April 20).

Furthermore, 30,000 foreign and domestic tourists visited the province during the second month of the Iranian calendar (April 20-May 21), the official said.

Isfahan, Yazd and Fars are the three hubs of Iran in terms of tourism growth, he said, adding that there are 2,090 monuments across the Yazd province, of which 600 have been registered on the National Heritage List.

Followed by Venice in northeastern Italy, the city of Yazd is the second historical city in the world. Also, the region, which dates back to 12,000 years, is the first Muslim adobe city. The selection of Yazd as a tourism hub for Muslim nations in 2017 is a good opportunity to introduce this central province as a manifestation of Iranian-Islamic architecture. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) made the decision seven years ago.
