Manipulation of terrorism to impact Iraqˈs political structure, Afkham

Tehran, July 23, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham on Wednesday warned that manipulation of terrorism will impact Iraqˈs political structure.
Addressing her weekly press briefing, she noted that Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Ali Shamkhaniˈs recent visit to Iraq was aimed at consulting with Iraqi officials and voicing Tehranˈs support for regional stability.

Iran supports peace and stability in Iraq and is consulting with regional countries to counter terrorism, Afkham added.

Some Iraqi political groups are using the Iraqi turmoil, resulting from the terrorist activities of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), to undermine the countryˈs government.

ISIL (Daesh) is a Salafi organization affiliated to al-Qaeda founded in Iraq in 2004.
