Iran to cut gas use in engine rooms
TEHRAN July 20 (Shana): Iran plans to save 13 mcm/d of natural gas in 600,000 engine rooms across the country as part of an energy efficiency scheme, a senior official said.
Iraj Hamedizad, a director with Iran Fuel Conservation Organization, said the measures include regulation of flares, installation of smart control systems and thermal insulation for cutting fuel consumption by at least 30 to 40 percent.

He said the plan targets 500,000 engine rooms in residential buildings and 100,000 others in administrative and commercial buildings.

Hamedizad said the four-year plan will be launched after it is endorsed by the governments Economic Council.

He said huge volumes of energy are wasted in engine rooms, adding that two billion dollars is estimated to be attracted for this project.

Hamedizad said the energy consumption index in the housing sector in Iran is 400 kw/h per square meter much higher than 50 kw/h in France.

He also said that the current engine rooms waste 50 percent of energy they receive.
