Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif[/caption]Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has described the Islamic Republic as the best protected Middle Eastern state against the fresh wave of extremism fueled by Takfiri terrorists.
In an interview with the CNN published on Thursday, the top Iranian diplomat warned that the acts of violence perpetrated by extremist militants pose security threats not only to Iraq and Syria but to all countries in the region, including Iran.
Zarif, however, said Iran was less vulnerable to the threats of Takfiri terrorism than its neighbors, adding, We are probably best protected from such waves of extremism compared to other regional states.
Our domestic security is inseparable from the security of the region, Zarif stated, stressing, We dont like instability in our neighborhood.
The Iranian foreign minister further called for a unified stance among all regional states to counter the violence fueled by the extremist terrorists operating in the countries such as Iraq and Syria.
Zarif further reaffirmed Irans support for neighboring Iraqs territorial integrity and said the fragmentation of the Arab state would be a disaster for the entire region.
Tehran has expressed preparedness to provide the government in Baghdad with security consultation in its battle against the ISIL terrorists, who have seized large swathes of the Arab state since last month.
The crisis in Iraq escalated after the ISIL militants took control of the city of Mosul in a lightning attack on June 10, which was followed by the fall of the city of Tikrit, located about 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. Tikrit was later taken back by the Iraqi armed forces.
The ISIL terrorist group has also wreaked havoc in Syria and committed numerous crimes against Syrian civilians and armed forces over the past three years.
