Campaign begins to restore major Tehran landmark

Campaign begins to restore major Tehran landmark
A new campaign has been established by a group of Iranian cultural heritage and history aficionados to save Azadi Tower, a prominent landmark in the capital.
In a statement published by ISNA, the group expresses concern regarding the deteriorating condition of the tower, saying professional restoration efforts are urgently needed.

Azadi Tower was built in 1971 by Irans now-deceased monarch, Mohammadreza Pahlavi, and given the name Shahyad as the chief landmark of the city. After the 1979 Revolution, the towers name was changed to the Azadi (Freedom) Tower.
