Veep congratulates counterparts in Muslim World on Ramadan
Tehran, June 28, IRNA - First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri on Saturday congratulated his counterparts in the Islamic countries on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and called for more unity in the Muslim world.
In separate messages to counterparts, he expressed hope that during the holy fasting month of Ramadan the world would witness friendship and brotherhood among Muslim nations, an end to oppression and discrimination, and promotion of lasting peace and security.
Jahangiri also wished happiness and prosperity for all Muslim governments and people around the world.

Ramadan is the ninth month on the Islamic calendar. Muslims fast from dawn to dusk during the month, and refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in excess or ill-natured.

Fasting is intended to teach Muslims about faith, spirituality, self-accountability and self-restraint.

Muslims believe Ramadan to be an auspicious month for the revelations of God to humankind.

It is also the month in which the first verses of the holy Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
