Iran inflation down 2.2% last month: Spokesman

Tehran, June 27, IRNA Government spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said that inflation rate declined by 2.2 percent in the Iranian month of Khordad (May22-June 21) compared with the figure one month earlier.
Talking to IRNA, he also said point to point inflation fell by 2.5 percent for the same period.
He said monthly inflation also declined by one percent.

Nobakht, also vice president for planning and strategic supervision affairs, further noted that 12-month inflation rate in the same period stood at 26.2 percent, lower by two percent than the month of Ordibehesht which was 28.4 percent.

Point to point inflation fell from 17.2 percent in Ordibehesht (April 21-May 21) to 14.7 percent in Khordad, registering a 2.5 percent decline, he said.

Describing remarkable decline in inflation rate in the past month as the result of the monetary and financial policies as well as efforts of government?s economic team, he said endeavors made in this regard paved the way for the country?s exit from stagnation and moving toward prosperity and economic growth.

Government?s spokesman also put the unemployment rate at the end of spring season at 10.7 percent.

Inflation rate in Khordad stood at 26.2 percent while the government has set the target at 25 percent by the end of the current Iranian year (started March 20), Nobakht said.
