New petchem plant to end Irans import of medical grade PVC granule
TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Hegmataneh petrochemical complex, to be inaugurated by this coming fall, will obviate the countrys need for the import of medical grade PVC powder and granule, a local official announced.

The new petrochemical plant located in Hamedan province, will turn Iran into an exporter of the medical grade PVC products, which are among the scarcest petrochemical materials in the world, said Governor of Hamedan Mohammad Naser Nikbakht on Wednesday.

Iran has significantly expanded the range and volume of its petrochemical production over the past few years.

The Islamic Republic, which holds the worlds third-largest proven oil reserves and the largest natural gas reserves, is determined to become the biggest petrochemical producer in the Middle East.

Earlier this week, Irans National Petrochemical Company (NPC) announced that a petrochemical complex with an annual output of 450,000 tons of propylene will come on stream by March 2017 in the country's Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone.

The complex, namely Salman-e-Farsi, is under construction in the southwestern city of Mahshahr with the aim of providing feedstock for the petrochemical industry, including the units of polypropylene, acrylonitrile, etc.

Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company is planned to produce the feedstock of the Salman-e-Farsi complex, which is estimated at 560,000 tons of propane per year.

The construction process of the complex started in 2010 and 11.7 percent of the work has finished up to now.
