Iranian VP urges stop in powers
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri in a meeting with Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Hamdoun Toure underscored that the international bodies shouldnt turn into a tool for the big powers' stronger domination over other nations.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the international bodies are a place for exchanging views by different countries to exercise their sovereignty with equal chances and opportunities, and that these bodies shouldnt become a place for the interference and influence of the big powers," Jahangiri said at the meeting here in Tehran on Tuesday.

He underlined Iran's position and capabilities in different fields, including science and technology, and said, "Iran is one of the most advanced countries of the region and we expect that the trend of these progresses continue at a higher pace through the ITU supports."

Toure, for his part, lauded Iran's progress and achievements in industrial and scientific fields, and said, "If the Iranian youth are provided with proper facilities and tools of communication and information technologies, they can create abundant job opportunities through their creativity and innovation."

He said that conditions are ripe for providing good and desirable services to the people through mutual cooperation and interaction.

TU is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies ICTs.

It allocates global radio spectrum and satellite orbits, develops the technical standards that ensure networks and technologies seamlessly interconnect, and strives to improve access to ICTs to underserved communities worldwide.

The ITU Council acts as the Unions governing body in the interval between Plenipotentiary Conferences. ITU Council also prepares a report on the policy and strategic planning of the ITU.
