Iran crests Kenya International Badminton Championships

National Iranian men's and women's doubles team have demonstrated remarkable skills in the 2014 edition of Kenya International Badminton Championships, and have been crowned as the champions of the sports event.
On Sunday, Soroush Eskandari and Hassan Mottaghi squared it out with Iranian teammates Farzin Khanjani and Mehran Shahbazi in a match played at theSafaricom Stadium Kasaraniin the Kenyan capital Nairobi, and edged past their opponents 2-0 to scoop up the gold medal in men's doubles. Khanjani and Shahbazi had to settle for silver.

Later in the day, Irans pair Negin Amiripour and Pegah Kamrani beat their compatriots Soraya Hajiagha and Sara Delavari 2-0 in the final competition of the womens doubles category, and earned the gold medal.

The 2014 Kenya International Badminton Championships opened in NairobisSafaricom Stadium Kasarani on June 19, and wrapped up on June 22.

The tournament brought together sportsmen and women from Austria, Egypt, Canada, the Czech Republic, India, Iran, Italy, Mauritius, Nigeria, Poland, Slovakia, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and hosts Kenya.

It featured six main categories: mens singles qualification, mens singles, men's doubles, women's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

In the 2013 edition of Kenya International Badminton Championships, Indian athlete Subhankar Dey won the men's singles tile, and Kenyas Patrick Kinyua and Mercy Joseph stood on top of the podium in the mixed doubles section. Nigeria dominated in other categories.
