New members of strategic council on foreign relations
NasimIranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei appointed new members for the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, to facilitate the countrys decision-making process, find new foreign policy approaches, and make use of foreign policy experts.
Saeed Jalili, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council from 2007 to 2013, Ebrahim Sheibani, former governor of the Central Bank of Iran; Major General Ahmad Vahidi, Ex-Defense minister; and Mahdi Mostafavi Ahari, former ambassador to Germany will join Mohammad Hossein Taremi as well as Kamal Kharazi in the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations.

The new Strategic Council for Foreign Relations was created by a June 25 decree from Supreme Leader and its membership has always reflected a search for practical expertise.

The new members replace Ali Akbar Velayati, Supreme Leaders foreign affairs adviser, former Islamic Revolution Guards Corp admiral Ali Shamkhani, Mohammad Shariatmadari. Kamal Kharazi who served as foreign minister from 1997-2005, will again head the council.
