Iran to send cultural-scientific delegation to China

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran is due to dispatch a cultural-scientific delegation to be headed by Supreme Leaders top Advisor for International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati to China on Saturday.
During the visit aiming to promote mutual cooperation between the two countries, Velayati, also Head of the Center for Strategic Research of Iran's Expediency Council, will hold talks with a number of Chinese scientific, cultural and state officials.

The visit will take place upon an invitation by head of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Velayati is also scheduled to visit some scientific and research centers in Beijing and Shanghai and address a gathering of Chinese elites and scholars during his stay in China.

Iran and China have forged an alliance in recent years, an effort which was opposed by many western powers.

Iran is currently China's third largest supplier of crude, providing Beijing with roughly 12 percent of its total annual oil consumption.

China is the biggest crude importer from Iran since it won a renewal of exemption from the United States' oil embargo against Tehran.
