Iran crowned champion in Asian Youth Wrestling Tournament
Tehran, June 6, IRNA Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers were crowned champion in the Asian Youth Wrestling Tournament held in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, on Friday.

On the second day of the competitions, two Iranian wrestlers reached the third place match.


As Iran has gained five gold medals and another silver on the first day of the tournament, it became champion, no matter what will be the results of the two remaining matches.

Iran?s Reza Khadri in 50-kg weight category defeated his rival from Kazakhstan on Friday, but conceded defeat against his Indian rival in the next round and will compete with a Japanese athlete for the third place.

Another Iranian wrestler, Babak Razmpoush, in 120-kg weight class beat his Mongolian competitor today, but lost his next match against another rival from China. Razmpoush,too, reached the third place match where he will compete with the winner of a competition between wrestlers from Kyrgyzstan and India.

On the first day of the tournament on Thursday, Iranian wrestlers gained five gold medals in 60-, 66-, 74-, 84- and 96-kg weight categories and a silver medal in 55-kg weight class.

Iran?s Behrouz Maleki in 55-kg weight category beat his rivals from Kyrgyzstan and Japan on his way to the final game where he conceded defeat against his Mongolian competitor to receive silver medal.

In 60-kg weight category, Iran?s Ali Arsalan defeated all his rivals from Kazakhstan, South Korea and India and snatched gold medal.

Iranian wrestler in 66-kg weight class, Ramin Taheri, gained another gold medal for Iran?s squad, after he emerged triumphant against his rivals from Japan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea and Tajikistan one after another.

Iran won another gold medal in 74-kg weight class by Payam Bouyeri who defeated all rivals from China, Japan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

In 84-kg weight category, Iran?s Ali Sharifi also grabbed gold medal. He beat competitors from China, Uzbekistan and China.

Another Iranian athlete, Mohammad Ebrahimi defeated all his rivals from Mongolia, South Korea and Kazakhstan to receive another gold medal for his team in 96-kg weight category on the first day of the tournament.

Asian Youth Freestyle Wrestling Championship will kick off in Ulan Bator on Saturday.
