With this election, the Americans will no longer have any pretext to claim that they want to help the Syrian nation against the government of this country, Alaeddin Boroujerdi said in a meeting with Syria's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Laham in Damascus on Tuesday.
Todays election in Syria is a firm response to all the crimes which have been committed by the United States and its regional and global allies over the past three years, said Boroujerdi, who is Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Irans Majlis.
He said the Syrians are scoring a big political success by voting en masse in their countrys presidential election, adding that the West is scared by the firm determination of the Syrian nation.
Al-Laham, for his part, said that the Syrians peoples vote promises the end of crisis in the country.
Boroujerdi arrived in Damascus on Tuesday at the head of an Iranian parliamentary delegation to monitor the important presidential poll in Syria.
The Iranian legislators are accompanied by parliamentary delegations from other countries, including the Philippines, Bolivia, Venezuela, Tajikistan, Zimbabwe and Uganda.
Eligible voters in Syria are heading to the polls to elect a president despite the foreign-backed militancy that has reportedly killed over 160,000 people since it erupted in the country in March 2011.
Incumbent Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is facing Maher Abdel Hafiz Hajjar, a lawmaker from Aleppo, as well as Hassan Abdallah al-Nuri, a legislator from Damascus, in the presidential race.
The poll is being held in the government-controlled parts of the country.
