Germans to save Zayanderoud

Germans to save Zayanderoud
TEHRAN, June 1 (MNA) A German official has said German companies have been awarded the contract to save Isfahans Zayanderoud.

Johannes Kraus, Director of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Energy, Ministry of Science and Research, who is in Isfahan, told the press that saving Zayanderoud was highly important for Germanys ministry.

The ministry has many projects in water and wastewater internationally, but Zayanderoud is very special for the ministry, Kraus said.

He said that Zayanderoud had been an issue of concern for industries, agriculture, and environmental activists. A motivation deriving German researchers to take measures for saving the river is the multiplicity of plans and concerns voiced over the river, which obliged us to take the project seriously, he added.

Kraus said that currently, German researchers are working on experiments in procedures to process wastewater, which we hope contribute to the quality of the process in Iran.

He compared Germanys efficient use of water resources. In Germany, with the current level of precipitations, we face no restrictions on water use and per capita water consumption is quite low, thus ruling out the governments attempts to persuade the public to optimize their water consumption, he added.

Kraus attributed the low consumption rate to the high price per unit of cubic meter of water. Currently, a cubic meter of water and wastewater treatment cost roughly 5 for costumers, and it is by itself contributing factor to such low a consumption rate by the public, he emphasized.

Kraus also added that treatment in Isfahans northern wastewater treatment complex had been improved through reconstruction of the first phase by German experts.
