Iran agriculture minister confers with FAO director-general

Paris, May 26, IRNA Irans Minister of Agricultural Jihad Mahmoud Hojjati met with FAO Director-General Jos Graziano da Silva in Paris Monday.
In a meeting on the sidelines of the 82nd general session of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) from May 25-30, the two officials discussed issues of mutual interest for FAO and the country and agreed to accelerate implementation of some joint projects.
The Iranian agriculture minister noted in the meeting that he shares with the FAO director-generals view on South-South Cooperation and voiced his interest in setting up a center for transfer of expertise.

Iran has immense experience and great achievements and I have offered Irans support for FAO in implementing regional prrojects, the Minister added.

He especially thanked FAO for its response to the critical issue of oak dieback in Zagros forest in Iran, where the Organizations expertise played a fundamental role.

Iran has great expertise in many areas which can be shared with region countries, said the FAO chief for his part.

The Iranian agriculture minister also held separate meetings with Oman?s Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Fuad bin Ja?afar bin Mohammed al Sajwani and Ecuadorian Minister of Agriculture, Cattle Raising, Aquaculture and Fishing Javier Ponce.


The 82nd general session of the World Assembly of OIE Delegates is underway from May 25 to 30, bringing together representatives of 178 OIE members and observers from international organisations.
