Senior Iranian cleric slams Boko Haram as “non-Muslims”

Nasim—Senior Iranian cleric Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi condemned “Boko Haram” crimes, a group who has caused havoc in Africa’s most populous country through a wave of bombings, assassinations and now abductions.
“These people are not human,” stressed Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi. “Boko Haram followers attribute themselves to Islam but they are in fact barbarians that cannot be even called human.”

Saying that their beliefs including restriction of receiving education for women, contradict Islamic teaching, he added: “some of these groups are supported by Anti-Islamic fronts in order to hurt the image of Muslims.”

It has now been one month since Boko Haram kidnapped more than two hundred girls from the town of Chibok in northeastern Nigeria. The girls had returned to their high school in order to complete examinations that would allow them to attend university.
