Iran will not accept nuclear apartheid: Official

An Iranian nuclear official has stressed the Islamic Republics inalienable right to nuclear research and development for peaceful purposes, saying Tehran will never surrender to nuclear apartheid.
As the Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei] and the president underlined, exercising these inalienable rights are inviolable, Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said on Wednesday night.

Kamalvandi reaffirmed the recent remarks made by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani that Iran will not accept scientific and nuclear apartheid, saying the country must be treated like other members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Speaking at a ceremony in Tehran to unveil three new types of nuclear medicine on May 13, President Rouhani said Iran will not stop its scientific activities and will never give in to nuclear apartheid.

Irans path to achieve nuclear technology has been a correct way and it will never stop, Rouhani said. We do not want to withdraw one step in technology, he added.

Pointing to the West double standard in dealing with the members of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Kamalvandi said the fact is that certain NPT members are supported by the West.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian official said that Irans power generation will reach 120, 000 megawatts over the next 20 years, 8 to 15 percent of which is expected to be produced from nuclear reactors.

Iran has repeatedly emphasized that its nuclear energy program is meant for civilian purposes only.

Tehran is in talks with six world powers to fully resolve the decade-old dispute over its nuclear energy program.
