Japan strongly supports environmental projects in Iran

Tehran, May 6, IRNA Japanase Charge d?affaires in Tehran Akira Chiba said his country is determined to support President Rouhani?s government environmental projects, especially in reviving the Oroumeyeh Lake.
In a ceremony to sign a cooperation document to save Oroumeyeh Lake here on Monday, the envoy said that the signing returns to the meeting between President Hassan Rouhani with Japanese premier during the UN General Assembly and after that the issue of reviving Oroumeyeh Lake was discussed between foreign ministers of Iran and Japan.
Chiba, who read his government statement in Farsi Language, added that the government of Japan is firmly supporting Irans government in the field of the environment and is following the interactions in cooperation with the UNDP.

He also referred to signing a cooperation document by Irans head of DoE and her Japanese counterpart in the past weeks and said that the two sides consolidated bilateral friendly relations via signing the document.

Chiba also reminded deteriorated situation of the Oroumeyeh Lake and expressed hope that through this cooperation project the lake could be revived.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Vice-President and Head of Department of Environment ( DoE) Masoumeh Ebtekar and the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Gary Lewis.

Upon the signed document, the Government of Japan allocated one million dollars to revive Oroumeyeh Lake.
