Iran pursuing transparent nuclear path: Larijani

Iran pursuing transparent nuclear path: Larijani
Irans Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani says Tehran has always pursued a clear and transparent path in its nuclear energy program.
Iran has never sought nuclear weapons but seeks to use peaceful nuclear energy, Larijani said in a meeting with Head of the Iran-Romania Parliamentary Friendship Group Sorin Stefan Rosca Stanescu in Tehran on Tuesday.

It would be beneficial to the European Union to act independently, he added.

The United States, Israel and some of their allies claim that Iran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with the US and the European Union using the allegation as a pretext to impose sanctions on Iran.

Tehran strongly rejects the claim, maintaining that as a committed signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities, but has never found any evidence showing that the Iranian nuclear program has been diverted toward non-civilian objectives.

Larijani further pointed to cordial relations between the Iranian and Romanian nations and said dialog between the two countries parliaments can play a leading role in improving ties and removing obstacles in the way of cooperation.

Stanescu, for his part, said Iran is an important and influential country in the region and expressed his countrys readiness to improve ties with Tehran in all fields.

He added that the visit by the Romanian parliamentary delegation to Iran can play an effective role in the expansion of mutual relations.
