Iran would successfully hold electronic elections: minister

TEHRAN, April 12 (MNA) Irans minister of IT and Communications has said Iran has the necessary infrastructure to hold an electronic election.

Mahmoud Vaezi, who was visiting the Technical Secretariat coordinating public registration in Targeted Subsidies Plan in the Post of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said that the registration for the second round of Targeted Subsidies Plan was a successful enterprise, revealing the ministrys technical and infrastructure capabilities to possibly hold an electronic elections.

In the first round of the Plan, registration lasted for 90 days; but now it has been possible in the course of 10 days thanks to technical capabilities and infrastructure, added Vaezi. However, he conceded slow internet connections in the first 2 hours of the registration, which the minister attributed to measures taken by the government to rule out the possibility of any hacking attacks.

For example, in the second and third day, in a course of 1 hour, almost 500,000 households registered in the Plan. This capability can be fully exploited in electronic government, he said.

The minister also said that necessary facilities present would make electronically holding of Parliament, City Council, and Presidential elections come to reality.

He said that apart from online registration, mobile registration panels have collected the data in 62,000 villages and small towns.
