Iran planning to develop potent missile systems: DM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan announced that his ministry has devised plans to design and manufacture more powerful surface-to-surface missile systems in the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2014).

Irans Defense Ministry has zeroed in on the production and improvement of those specific items of military equipment that would help the country raise its defensive might, Brigadier General Dehqan told reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony here in Tehran on Tuesday, held to observe the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.

Among the Defense Ministrys major plans in the current Iranian year will be projects to design and manufacture potent ground-to-ground missile systems, as well as influential defensive systems, Dehqan noted.

He also underlined that the Iranian military experts are scheduled to produce a range of naval equipment with firm determination this year.

In relevant comments on March 1, the Iranian defense minister said his ministry plans to equip Navy vessels and submarines with missile capability.

In the field of naval industries, we have on the agenda (production of) different classes of vessels and submarines and equipping them with missile systems, Dehqan said at the time.

He had announced that his ministry enjoys necessary capabilities in all fields, including the production of different types of ground-to-air, air-to-ground, ground-to-ground and naval missiles.

What is important for us is increasing (the missiles) range, precision and their capability to encounter radar offense, and their radar-evading feature, he said.

In the recent years, the Iranian defense ministry has been able to equip the country's Armed Forces with the latest version of missiles, tanks, bombs, air defense systems, armored vehicles, radars, torpedoes, etc, to boost the forces' capability to defend the country.
