TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Andrija Geric praised the new Iranian volleyball coach and his former teammate, Slobodan Kovac, and said Kovac is the best candidate to replace Julio Velasco.
Irans Volleyball Federation has reached an agreement with Slobodan Kovac. The former Serbian volleyball player will begin his work from April.

If Kovac accepts the job, Iran volleyball team will repeat the results they earned with Velasco. Iran has top players, who are thirsty for success, Andrija Geric said in an interview with the Tasnim news agency.

Kovac has not yet coached a national team but Geric said, To lead a national team is easier than a club, since a national team coach has a great source of the players and will be supported by the countrys organizations.

Also, all players who will be invited to the national team have a big motivation to earn success. The players will play to make money in the clubs. Money doesnt always motivate the players, the 2000 Olympics Games gold medalist added.

Geric didnt declined he has a chance to be appointed as Iran assistant coach.

Iran has to play Japan, China and South Korea in the Olympic qualifications and I think the team could advance to the competitions. Kovac is thirsty for success, however he has yet to win a trophy," Geric noted.
